dressing daisy kutter.

My wonderful friend Dennice makes brilliant, very sexy accessories with the use of yarn and needles. I make very sexy, kind of surprising jewelry with the use of pliers and wire. We share a similar aesthetic and inspirations, and are turned on by classic Hollywood glamour, rusty metal, liquids, Westerns, and accurate spelling. From time to time through our correspondence, our interests come together in a single idea, and we play it out in our two different mediums. Some time ago, we both read Kazu Kibuishi’s graphic novel Daisy Kutter: The Last Train, and were captivated by the stubborn, curly-haired heroine who embraces bad decisions with a whole heart and a loaded weapon. We were also impressed at how well accessorized she is, and that got us started.

Both pieces will be listed today in our respective shops, with more complete descriptions.

decadent pleasures

Is there anything more indulgent than a nap in the middle of the afternoon? Now that it’s summer, and I’m lucky enough to be at home, I’m in a frequent nap zone. The only thing that can increase my pleasure in a good nap is if it’s a really sunny, hot day and I can turn on the air conditioning, draw the blinds and really shirk some responsibilities. A good nap on a sunny day requires one perfect accessory: an eye mask. Don’t panic, I have just the thing. Before you unplug the phone and fluff the pillows, take a minute to complete your nap ensemble.

Annie Wilson, the stylish and hardworking creator of poetic & chic, has launched a line of handmade accessories using vintage barkcloth fabrics. I’m the proud owner of one of Annie’s vintage barkcloth eyemasks, and it’s increasing my nap enjoyment immensely! These pretty masks are beautifully made, with a cool and luxurious 100% silk black charmeuse on the back, and just a handful of deliciously fragrant lavender hulls sewn inside. They smell heavenly, and they block out those fierce afternoon rays to perfection.

Sourdough products are currently available on Etsy, and you can read more about Annie’s wonderful designs at Sourdough online. In addition to the essential eyemask, she also makes adorable jackets with chic lines and retro fabrics. If you’re in San Francisco, look for Sourdough at the Renegade Craft Fair on July 18 & 19.

Now go slack off, ladies; I salute you!

sorry, Emily.

Feathers are a noticeable trend lately, and one that’s produced some fantastic work on Etsy. So much fantastic work that I just had to make a treasury. I give you “Hair is the thing with feathers.” Featured shops are listed in order of appearance, left to right, top to bottom, beneath the picture. Check them out, but be forewarned – once you start wearing feathers in your hair, it’s really hard to stop.

etsy urban hip, week who knows: days of wine & roses

I’m hunting around for a new format for promoting my favorite Etsy shops, but before the busy holiday season sets in for real, I wanted to do one last one in my original Urban Hip accessories format. At the moment, I’m in love with wine red. The rich color and the way it plays off my current favorite paper background are just delighting me, so it’s all over my shop. Here are some of my favorite red items by my favorite urban hipsters. Click the pictures to shop, people!

etsy urban hip, week 14: tutus, tequila & federales

I’m loving my girls especially much this week, as they’re helping smooth all my little annoyances with grace and goofyness. Here’s to a successful fall, ladies; you’re all delightful and I wish we could don our gay apparel and meet in person. Thanks for being the most supportive and hilarious Etsy-buddies I could ask for. As for my gentle readers, I apologize for the preponderance of inside jokes; enjoy our latest treasures (and have fun storming the castle)!
